Georgia, one of the southern United States, is bounded on the north by Tennessee and North Carolina; on the northeast by South Carolina, from which it is separated in part by the Savannah River; on the southeast by the Atlantic Ocean; on the south by Florida; and on the west by Alabama. It lies between about 30º 19′ and 35º north latitude, and between 81º and 85º 53′ west longitude. The state measures about 300 miles from north to south and about 250 miles from east to west. It contains approximately 59,425 square miles, or 38,032,000 acres.
This state project is part of the much larger American History & Genealogy Project or better known by the abbreviation of AHGP.
