Florida History & Genealogy

Florida, the southernmost state in the continental United States, is bounded on the north by Georgia and Alabama; on the east by the Atlantic Ocean; on the south by the Straits of Florida; and on the west by the Gulf of Mexico and Alabama. It lies between approximately 24º 27′ and 31º 0′ north latitude, and between 80º 2′ and 87º 38′ west longitude. The state extends about 447 miles from north to south and about 361 miles from east to west at its widest point. It covers an area of approximately 65,758 square miles, or 42,085,120 acres, making it the 22nd largest state in the nation.

This state project is part of the much larger American History & Genealogy Project or better known by the abbreviation of AHGP. It has been in existence online since 2000 and over the years has been spread out across the web. These pages are an attempt to consolidate it under one website of the larger project.
