New York History & Genealogy

New York, one of the middle Atlantic states, is bounded on the north by Canada (Quebec and Ontario); on the east by Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut; on the south by New Jersey and Pennsylvania; and on the west by Pennsylvania, Lake Erie, and Lake Ontario. It is separated from Canada in part by the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario. It lies between about 40º 30′ and 45º north latitude, and between 71º 51′ and 79º 46′ west longitude. The state measures about 310 miles from north to south and about 330 miles from east to west. It contains approximately 54,556 square miles, or 34,916,000 acres.

This state project is part of the much larger American History & Genealogy Project or better known by the abbreviation of AHGP. It has been in existence online since 2000 and over the years has been spread out across the web. These pages are an attempt to consolidate it under one website of the larger project.
