Iowa, one of the north central United States, is bounded on the north by Minnesota; on the east by Wisconsin and Illinois, from which it is separated by the Mississippi River; on the south by Missouri; and on the west by Nebraska and South Dakota, from which it is separated in part by the Missouri River and the Big Sioux River. It lies between about 40º 36′ and 43º 30′ north latitude, and between 90º 8′ and 96º 39′ west longitude. The state measures about 210 miles from north to south and about 310 miles from east to west. It contains approximately 56,273 square miles, or 36,015,000 acres.

This state project is part of the much larger American History & Genealogy Project or better known by the abbreviation of AHGP. It has been in existence online since 2000 and over the years has been spread out across the web. These pages are an attempt to consolidate it under one website of the larger project.
