Wisconsin, one of the north central United States, is bounded on the north by Lake Superior and Michigan; on the east by Lake Michigan; on the south by Illinois; and on the west by Iowa and Minnesota, from which it is separated in part by the Mississippi River and the St. Croix River. It lies between about 42º 30′ and 47º 5′ north latitude, and between 86º 46′ and 92º 53′ west longitude. The state measures about 295 miles from north to south and about 260 miles from east to west. It contains approximately 65,498 square miles, or 41,918,720 acres.
