Idaho, one of the northwestern United States, is bounded on the north by Canada (British Columbia); on the east by Montana and Wyoming; on the south by Utah and Nevada; and on the west by Oregon and Washington. It lies between about 42º and 49º north latitude, and between 111º 3′ and 117º 15′ west longitude. The state measures about 480 miles from north to south and about 305 miles from east to west. It contains approximately 83,569 square miles, or 53,484,160 acres.
Idaho Territory was created on July 4, 1863, at Lewiston. Parts of the present-day state were included in the Oregon, Washington, and Dakota Territories. The new territory included present-day Idaho, Montana, and most of Wyoming. Idaho became the 43rd state on July 3, 1890.
This state project is part of the much larger American History & Genealogy Project or better known by the abbreviation of AHGP. It has been in existence online since 2000 and over the years has been spread out across the web. These pages are an attempt to consolidate it under one website of the larger project.
