Kit Carson County, located in the eastern plains of Colorado, is bounded on the north by Yuma County; on the east by Cheyenne County, Kansas; on the south by Cheyenne County, Colorado; and on the west by Lincoln County. It lies between approximately 38º 45′ and 39º 45′ north latitude, and between 102º and 103º west longitude. The county extends roughly 36 miles from north to south and 36 miles from east to west, forming a near-perfect square. It contains an area of approximately 2,162 square miles, or 1,383,680 acres.
