Julia Ann was born June 20, 1844 in Giles Co., TN near Veto. She was enumerated in the 1850 census at age 5 and lived in Giles Co. until she was about 16. During the winter of 1859-1860, her family removed to Tishamingo Co., MS now Prentiss Co., MS. Julia's parents were Zachariah Hasten/Hastin/Hasting, son of James Hasting who died in Giles County in 1842 and Lilly Phillips, daughter of Thomas Phillips and Nancy Unknown of Giles Co.

The granddaughter of JOHN MARTIN ROSS, Elizabeth Evans Kennedy celebrated her 100th birthday in November, 1999.
