| If you read the history of Indian Tribes you will quickly discover they were located in many different states. I remember the first time someone asked about the Blackfoot Indians being in the Virginia area, I almost answered that query with another question, like have you every looked at a map?? Then I did some research on my own and learned the Sioux spent time in that area, and the Blackfoot are part of that tribe. I learned we shouldn't be so quick to answer. History books are good, but these were mostly written 100 years ago and much has been learned since that time. A good publication online is North American Indian Tribes, by John R. Swanton. This list will help you in your search for your ancestors. Be sure to provide name, dates and location of your ancestors for your search. |
