Note: In The Battle of Valverde on 2/21/1862, sixty-eight Union solders were killed, one hundred-sixty wounded, twenty-five were taken prisoner.
Confederate losses were thirty-six killed, one hundred-forty wounded. (Notice the soldiers buried in the Marcy Military Cemetery.) Fort Marcy moved once and then moved back to Santa Fe after the Civil War.
Soldiers from nearby forts were also buried in this cemetery. A hospital was located here. Some soldiers came here because of illness or injury and may have died in the hospital.
